Students spend so much time in schools (sometimes even more time than they do with family), yet the following seem to escape the minds of many young people*:

  • use basic tools
  • save money
    • investing and risk
  • purify water
  • grow food
  • cook food
  • make and repair clothes
  • build shelter in case of emergency
  • plan for common major life events
    • funerals
    • weddings
  • critical thinking about the law and taxation
  • reading at least two differing opinions on a news story
  • how to leverage technology to learn almost anything

For most of the things listed above, it comes down to the "how" rather than the "what": teaching the "how" gives the learner the knowledge for a lifetime while teaching only the "what" would have a shorter lifespan!

* - some of these still escape even me 😂 and will likely escape me for life
