Digital hoarding refers to the collection of an excessive amount of digital content such as:
- memes
- photos
- music
- videos
- GIFs
- PDFs
- e-mails
- open source software
While those files may take up little to no physical space (aside from that of external hard drives), they can result in a lot of mental and psychological clutter.
Digital hoarders also tend to:
- have cluttered desktops on their operating system
- have an inbox e-mail count of several thousands (anti-inbox-zero)
- hoard physical media such as books and DVDs
So, solutions to this could include:
- removing unnecessary icons from the desktop at the end of the day
- make use of "snooze" and "archive" functionalities of some e-mail providers
- invest in a USB flash drive that stores terabytes of data
